FBV has been a labour of love for us as we built the cottages, villas and parts of the clubhouse from scratch over the last 40 years, and raised our two children here.
Tony’s ties to the Bahamas date back to the war of independence, when loyalist to the British crown were forced to choose an alliance to the colonies, move to Canada or back to the UK (all so cold!) or settle on one of the commonwealth Islands.
Lucky for us, Tony’s great grandfather, John Armbrister, remained loyal to England and moved his family first to Nassau in 1790, and then onto Cat Island in the 1800s (you can visit the remains of his small plantation home and ancient railroad in Old Bight).
Tony, his brother Ted & their parents, spent idyllic summers in New Bight at the family’s seaside cottage, The Pink House – soon to be a café, book store and historical landmark. Exploring Cat Island in the early days – before electricity or phones - the boys fished, hiked to the hermitage, swam in the sea and got to know the local families in the community.
Today, we continue to revel in the beauty and simplicity of Cat Island and are able to share our love and commitment to the land and local population through the resort. It’s been our pleasure to show our children, Tameron and Shane, the wonders of Out Island life and the value of extended family by way of our staff and guests as they grew up. Tameron is now your knowledgeable reservationist!
The resort has evolved in stages. As our vision and communication capabilities expanded we were able to grow the hotel and the services we provide today.
So kick off your shoes, grab a beach towel, a cool drink and head to the water’s edge. We’re here to take care of you. Whether it’s a special meal, extra pillows, an island tour, picnic lunch, or coconut concoction at the tiki-bar, we can accommodate your needs.
We invite you to come meet our friendly staff, have some fun, relax and enjoy the sun, sea and beaches of Cat Island! We hope you enjoy our village and wish to thank you for your interest in the resort.
Pam, Tony, Tameron, and Shane Armbrister
